Best scene in movie history?

Posted in Movies, Musik on February 4, 2011 by SweetEnlow

Last night, after a few glasses of wine, my parents and I watched one of the greatest movies of all time, “Vacation.” I personally feel that this following scene is arguably one of the best in movie history.

Aside from one of the most ridiculous dances ever -involving a bologna sandwich, Christie Brinkley is one of my favorite women of all. But the background music I think makes the scene entirely – June Pointer’s “Little Boy Sweet.” I searched for this song on iTunes and they don’t have it. One word describes that – horse shit.

Alice in Chains Unplugged

Posted in Musik on June 14, 2010 by SweetEnlow

Not really a big fan of Alice in Chains, but I was recently over at my brothers house and he had me watch their “MTV Unplugged” performance from ’96.  I was blown away.  I highly recommend checking it out.  One can buy the actual album with DVD for around 12$ on Amazon.

Alice in Chains is but one example of the awesome stuff MTV used to play.

Here is my favorite, “Nutshell.”

Maxwell

Posted in Musik on February 3, 2010 by SweetEnlow

I discovered Maxwell in middle school actually and ever since then I have been hooked.  A very slow R&B artist with an extremely high-pitched voice, his sound is definitely unique.

He has been around for sometime, but his latest song “Pretty Wings” is incredible – one of my favorite as of late.  I had not even heard it till the Grammys last Sunday.  In any regard, definitely listen to some of his music.  Some of the best music ever to chill to …

“This womans work”

“Lifetime”

“Get to know ya”

Prince v Michael

Posted in Musik on January 26, 2010 by SweetEnlow

A little over 6 months ago, the King of Pop, otherwise known as Michael Jackson died… at 50.  The story of Jackson is simply sad – no I did not find all of his weird behavior intriguing, but I am definitely the minority.

Jackson was, in my opinion, the greatest entertainer in American history (maybe Elvis), but what Jackson wasn’t was a great musician.  From what I understand he played little or no instruments.

Now, Prince on the other hand is one the greatest musicians of all time.  He plays tons of different instruments, writes his own songs, and produces his own albums.  I once heard that he his so much faith in his own ability that he plays each instrument for each of his songs, then goes back and mixes them to make sure it is down right.  Highly Impressive.

In addition, Prince has been putting out jams since he was 18 in 1976.  He is still putting out albums with his latest having likely my favorite prince song “Call my Name.”  Check it

Either way, as a musician, Prince trumps just about everybody… including Michael Jackson

Some new ones…

Posted in Musik on January 20, 2010 by SweetEnlow

The band Phoenix just released a new album entitled “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” and it is great.  Many might not know the band because they are somewhat cult-ish; however, I highly recommend checking them out and their new album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyU24rr0doo

this is likely my favorite from one of their older albums.  I first heard it in the movie “Shallow Hal” – which is, by the way, a great movie

In addition, Justin Bieber just released a new song entitled “Baby” and it is awesome.  Not really a shocker here considering it was number 2 on iTunes last I checked.  Either way, this kid is interesting – discovered on youtube, offered by both Timberlake and Usher, and is now killing it with young Michael Jackson-esque* lyrics.

Lastly, I wanted to post this video because I honestly think it is one of the best live performances of pop music in a while.  A combination of Timberlake, Timbaland, Kerri Hillson, and Nelly Furtado (who looks incredible by the way) makes for some goosebumping entertainment at the 2007 VMAs… check it

Robin Thicke

Posted in Musik on January 6, 2010 by SweetEnlow

If you have not heard Robin Thicke, get yourself in line and get his music.  He is without a doubt one of the biggest up-and-comers in the music industry (R & B) with a unique sound and incredible voice.  He is like a cross between D’Angelo and Maxwell.

He just released a new CD entitled “Sex Therapy – The Experience” and it is excellent.  You should definitely check it out

For some reason WordPress is not letting me embed the video properly, my apologies on the simple link.

John Mayer

Posted in Musik on December 28, 2009 by SweetEnlow

Since I have been home, I have not had an access to my personal computer for my normal music scowering. However, I recently heard John Mayer’s new single “Heartbreak Warfare” and instantly recognized its greatness.

Mayer is without a doubt the best guitarist out there, at least within the pop-blues realm, but most people LOVE to hate on him.  They hate on his voice, live performances, or just his overall persona.  Either way, these people are just jealous because Mayer is a baller.  The funny thing is Mayer actually noticeably lets these dorks get to him. His interview in last months Details Magazine provides a good insight to Mayer’s approach to these people.  Either way, a definite ladies man, fan of Ron Paul, and a talented songwriter, all should appreciate Mayer and his craft.

I just sampled his new album and it’s pretty standard Mayer – as in, its pretty damn good.  He is not my favorite musician, but I do definitely enjoy him. His lyrics are great, guitar playing unrivaled, and – except for his goofy-ass faces – his live performances are highly entertaining.

Check his new album and appreciate Mayer …haters.

Three Musik Recs

Posted in Musik on December 8, 2009 by SweetEnlow

I would like to bring to your attention three new songs currently in circulation.  You may have heard of all three, or none at all, but regardless, I feel they are worth mentioning.

Lady Antebellum’s “Baby, its cold outside.”

Though not on their self-titled album, Lady Antebellum’s country take on “Baby, its cold outside” is a great song.  Both my parents, especially my mom, have quite a bit of twang to their voice, so the twang of both singers reminds me of family and home.  Lady Antebellum is literally tearing it up on the music circuit currently and this but one of their many great songs.  Their album is great and right in-line with the surging country-pop genre.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLbf5_KXnO8

The Man Who Can’t be Moved by The Script

I first heard this song on the latest Victoria Secret Fashion Show and, after some research, came about discovering it.  It has a great sound, so much so that I predict it will soon be (if it isn’t already) played in every sorority house and car in the country.  Check it out.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS9o1FAszdk

Bedrock by Young Money

The 2nd song released by Young Money, after arguably the greatest song ever “Every Girl,” “Bed Rock” has a very simple, great beat with classic Wayne-style lyrics.  It is pretty popular already, but if you haven’t heard it, I would advise to do so.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS7dF4j-NTQ
